Our mining team provides consultancy services in the broad areas of mining engineering, rock mechanics, water management, environmental management, and health & safety, to the mining and quarrying industries; together with the manufacture and supply of a range of geotechnical instrumentation for in situ measurements of ground movements and rock stresses.
In the UK and Ireland, our team of mining professionals, based between Bourne End, Bretby, London, and Naas, are qualified in a range of disciplines allied to geotechnics and are experienced in solving rock mechanics and mining problems in coal, soft rock and hard rock mines.
As well as providing services and products to the UK mining industry (particularly underground coal mining), our team have worked for clients throughout Europe and globally on assignments including mine design, tailings management, ore reserve evaluation, rock reinforcement design, pillar design, and supply of geotechnical instrumentation to name but a few.
Our mining services cover a broad range of consultancy, instrumentation, research and software, which are applicable to both underground and surface mining. More information on these areas in provided under the following headlngs (these titles are hyperlinked to the text below):

We are able to provide a range of bespoke solutions under these headings. Please contact our UK and Ireland mining team (see contacts details above) to discuss your requirements.
We provide a service for in situ stress measurement for underground mines and tunnels using the overcoring method with CSIRO stress cells. Our engineers have wide-ranging experience in these techniques and offer a worldwide service in stress measurement.
See our Stress Measurement page for information.
We undertake a significant research and development programme. This allows the company to continually develop its services and investigation techniques. Current research projects include major European Community and HSE funded projects into aspects of coal mine roof reinforcement and layout issues. These projects include collaboration with other European research organisations and mine operators.
See our Mining Research page for more information.
Our on-site facilities at Bretby, Derbyshire, include instrumentation and testing laboratories. Rock property tests, including tri-axial testing using a 1,000kN stiff test machine, are routinely undertaken. We have also developed laboratory-based tests for testing rock reinforcement materials in rock to determine in situ performance characteristics.
See our Mining Testing Services page for more information.
We offer a wide range of software from monitoring rock displacement, strain gauged rockbolts and extensometers to designing cutting drum designs. Some of our software products are available for download free of charge to assist our customers in analysing data obtained from our instrumentation. We also provide high quality, bespoke software design and we would be pleased to provide advice against your specific applications requirements.
